I just downloaded a perl script called
linguaphile from sourceforge the other
day, that translates between various
languages, and got to thinking...
There sure are a bunch of Return Missionaries
that know other languages. I wonder how
many of them are participating in any of
the open source language translation projects
or dictionaries.
It seems like an ideal match to me.
Plus certain words and phrases could be
added to the dictionaries such as "Book of
Mormon", "Plan of Salvation", and others.
Also, if the church were to endorse one of
dictionary formats, and then unleash a legion
of Return Missionary translators, it might
be a very good public relations thing for the church.
I remember the genealogical records extraction
program I did at BYU, and perhaps a similar program
could be set up for RM translation.
Does anyone know of any good open source projects
or dictionary formats that the Church could endorse ?
